Long Lartin Update Jenny and I are still going to the services at Long Lartin and were there on 24th May - unfortunately neither of us could attend at the end of April as we were on both away on holiday. There is a second service at Long Lartin which starts at 10.30 am but, at the moment anyone wishing to attend had to also attend the first service at 9.00 a.m. This is all tied in with staffing problems until they get a replacement for Fritha who retired last year. Once this is sorted they are hoping to be able to let people attend just one service of their choice. Watch this space for further news on this possibility. You would need to arrive at half an hour before the time of the service to go through the necessary security checks and be taken across to the Chapel. The service lasts about an hour and there is then coffee and chance to chat to the prisoners. Pamela Bevan & Jenny Pierce y
Long Lartin Visitor Centre. The Visitor Centre at Long Lartin is open on a Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (not sure about Saturday). They are short of helpers and I have been along to find out what happens - and have now volunteered my services on one Tuesday a month, starting in January. The duties are not particularly difficult - just making tea or coffee for the visitors, selling crisps, chocolate etc and making sure that each visitor fills in the appropriate form to hand in as they go through. It is only open for and hour and a half on each day but the time is from 12 noon until 1.30 p.m. (plus opening up and closing afterwards). If anyone feels that they would be able to undertake this task please do have a word with me as I know that Long Lartin would be very grateful for some extra help.
